Creating Magical Memories: How I Turned a Challenge into a Dream Career

Two years ago, we received some shocking news: our mortgage payments were doubling. 💥 Like many families, we sat down and thought, “What is life going to look like now our biggest outgoing has suddenly doubled?” Honestly? It felt devastating.

Adjusting to Change

We were fortunate in many ways. We weren’t living beyond our means, and we had some flexibility to cut back. However, it was clear that anything ‘extra’—like holidays, family days out, treats, and fun—was going to take a hit. We’d just returned from an amazing trip to Florida, and I was desperate to go back. But suddenly, that felt like an impossible dream. Our holiday fund had essentially become our new mortgage payment.

Finding New Opportunities

We quickly realised that if we still wanted to make memories and go on the big trips we dreamed of—not just Disney, but UK breaks, days out, and spontaneous family fun—we’d need to bring in more income.

Here’s the thing: I’ve always been lucky to be at home with my kids. I’ve worked in some capacity, but I’ve always done it flexibly from home since having children. I’ve loved being there for school runs, sports days, open afternoons, and all those little moments you can’t get back. The thought of going into a full-time job and missing all of that didn’t sit right with me.

Then, almost by chance, I stumbled upon the opportunity to work from home as a travel agent. It had always been a dream of mine. Even better, the person I connected with specialised in Disney holidays. I thought, “That’s it. That’s what I can do. I know those holidays. I love those holidays. I can help people with that.”

I had already started my Instagram page to share hints and tips from our Florida holiday, so setting up as an agent seemed like a natural progression.

Instead of searching for a 9-to-5 job, I began building my own travel business from the ground up, around my family. And two years later… here we are!
