Two years ago, we got the news that our mortgage payments were doubling. đ„ Like many families, we sat down and thought, âWhat is life going to look like now our biggest outgoing has suddenly doubled?â And honestly? It felt devastating.
We were lucky in many ways â we werenât living beyond our means, and we had some flexibility to cut back. But it was clear that anything âextraâ like holidays, family days out, treats and fun was going to take the hit. Weâd just returned from an amazing Florida trip, and I was desperate to go back. But suddenly, that felt like an impossible dream. Our holiday fund had essentially become our new mortgage payment.
We realised pretty quickly that if we still wanted to make memories and go on the big trips we dreamed of â not just Disney but UK breaks, days out, spontaneous family fun â weâd need to bring in more income.
But hereâs the thing: Iâve always been fortunate to be at home with my kids. Iâve always worked in some capacity - but from home flexibly since having kids. Iâve loved being there for the school runs, the sports days, the open afternoons, and all those little moments you never get back. The idea of going into a full-time job where Iâd miss all of that just didnât sit right with me.
And then, almost by chance, I came across the opportunity to work from home as a travel agent. It had always been a dream of mine â and even better, the person I connected with specialised in Disney holidays. I thought: âThatâs it. Thatâs what I can do. I know those holidays. I love those holidays. I can help people with that.â
Iâd actually already started my Instagram page to share hints and tips from our Florida holiday, so setting up as an agent just seemed like a natural progression.
So, instead of going out and finding a 9-to-5, I started building my own travel business â from the ground up, around my family. And two years later⊠here we are.
â Weâve managed to stay in our home
â Iâve been there for the kids
â Weâve still made magical memories â from Disneyland Paris to a Disney Cruise
â And weâve got Walt Disney World coming up!
My business has grown, Iâve met amazing clients, and Iâve found something I truly love doing â all while being there for my family.
If youâre ever feeling like youâre stuck between needing more income and not wanting to sacrifice time with your children, I completely get it. There are options out there. And Iâm so grateful I found mine.
